granny would be proud

 

 our buddies at granny would be proud regularly bring together the finest purveyors of vintage and retro fashion in all the seven kingdoms, and stuff them under our roof for the the {sun}day.  and we've got a full programme of gwbp-proper-girly-vintage-type fairs lined up over  the next wee while  -  on the 29th april, 6th may, 27th may, 3rd june, 17th june, and 24th june.  so, put the dates in your diaries...

and, as with all the gwbp events, it's absolutely scot-free to come in and have a nosey {sorry, scott!}. and the bookclubbers will be serving up tasty brunch all day long, to boot...you know, we spoil you, we really do...

 

 

what now huh?

 

12th may 2012  -  not, as you may think, the first three words that exit our mouths.  what now huh  are, in fact, a scottish artist collective,  who'll be bringing another of their pop-up art shows down to the {hb}. things will be getting all artsy-fartsy from 11am to 4pm, so come take a peek. get an idea of what to expect by checking out their website at whatnowhuh.tumbler.com...

9th june 2012  -  we're turning the bookclub into an art gallery for the day, in order to show off original, and more importantly, affordable art from some of glasgow's finest up-and coming artists and illustrators.  so, if you're bored of pretentious portraiture, and sick of lacklustre landscapes, you should stop by for a gander...

In this age of digital entertainment, take a trip back to the old school with Master Andrew Hopkins {the boy with no balls}.
Every Wednesday he breaks out his thesaurus for a few games of word bingo. Come get involved at 6pm for a chance to win some fabulous prizes, or if Paul's feeling flush, maybe a strawberry mojito!

 

friday boasts an exciting new west end residency from Solar Disco's kev stevens. classic and underground disco, new releases from solar disco recordings, dusted down old soul and shoe shuffling funky stuff to keep the west end moving into the weekend. and beyond. turntables start moving around 9pm.

 

saturday's child can enjoy a collection of fine records and shirts from dj andy taylor. funk, soul, some decent hip hip, hop hip and occasionally even some hip-hop are on offer from bookclub's favourite floral shirted vinylist. Check out andy's night "Pass the Peas" at Bar Bloc and keep an ear out for any new releases from the man himself.

 

sunday has a special place in our hearts. good food. good drinks. a bunch of newspapers. a couple of cracking bloody marys. comfy seats. we thought we'd through in a cool as funk 40s rock'n'roll and rockabilly soul set from glasgow's hairiest greek disc-jockey.
