hear the buzz
- The food was delicious! And the house wine is also V nice!! Great value for money and great atmos!
27/04/2011- Good as always!!!
13/05/2011- Food was fab and service was good for busy Saturday Night
21/05/2011- My fiance and I enjoyed an amazing saturday night at your bar last year(great tunes!), the day after the groove armada white light gig. We are naming tables at our wedding as the best restaurants we have been to on our travels throughout Europe. We would really like to name one 'Hillhead Bookclub'
04/04/2011- Love, love, LOVE this place! This place is proof that London doesn't have it all! Went here today for Sunday brunch and didn't know where to look first: the eclectic furniture, the painstakingly mismatched charity-shop sourced cutlery or the beautiful ceiling of what I think used to be a cinema? The staff was friendly and attentive while my veggie full English was definitely a winner. Some people might think it's pretentious; I think it's genius. This place is a trip down memory lane for people like me who grew up in the late 80s/early 90s and remember desk projectors at school which the Bookclub now cleverly uses as the Today's Special board; not to mention their SuperNintendo & Sega corner where you can play a few rounds of Streetfighter; or check out their ping-pong table. The perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
03/04/2011- Great pub grub. Good value for money and cool surroundings!
09/08/2010 - 3pm - Lovely veggie food and delicious free mojitos! We had our kids who were kept entertained with the table tennis and games. Great value for money.
I'll be back.
27/07/2010 - 3pm - We have been looking for a new vegetarian restaurant since Grassroots closed, and we have now found the perfect one to replace it, will be visiting it again soon, at least once a month. Everything about the place was fantastic, the food, the staff, the atmosphere.
15/07/2010 - 5pm - Great location - chilled out ambience & good food.
04/07/2010 - 5pm - 'never before have studious weekends been so fun'
10/05/2010 - theskinny.co.uk - The West End of Glasgow has a new bar and 5pm has a new member in the form of the quirky Hillhead Bookclub.
It opened at the weekend on the former site of The Salon on Vinicombe Street and is already doing its best to stand out from its less anarchic competitors.
It describes itself as 'A sanctuary for star crossed lovers, cross eyed lovers and those of us who just want a pint' and lists moose-hunting, vegetarianism, meat-eating and ping pong among its many attractions.
Bingo, millions of DJs and a Sega Mega Drive add to the list of wonky reasons to visit.
The menus are a hoot. From the brunch menu, diners have the option of Stavros the omelette on toast, a combo which features olives, feta and red onion.
On the dinner menu is a list of dishes which 'yer maw almost certainly does better ( but it doesn't hurt to try)'. Think along the lines of bangers and mash or braised lamb.
I also liked the starter of meatloaf with picallili which is listed as sounding 'like an 80's rock song tastes better'.
If the cooking is as lively as the sense of humour then the Hillhead Bookclub could soon be on the best seller lists.
